Town Mountain Residence

Tucked into a hillside, this residence is a contemporary shingle style house that looks to blend in with its surroundings and take advantage of spectacular mountain views.

Orientation and placement on the site provides spectacular views without marring the views from the neighboring mountains. We worked with the owners’ space requirements and developed a simple massing for the home and a low-pitched roof form that appears to hug the sloping land. Outdoor terraces and porches connect and expand the living areas to the landscape, while thoughtful placement of windows provide a visual connection to the outdoors.

Designing for the specific needs of a client is one of the more rewarding and challenging aspects of custom residential architecture. Each space in the Town Mountain Asheville Residence was designed around particular furniture arrangements and artworks. Every room was tailored to fit the owners’ needs, functions and objects. In particular are the display cases integrated into the rooms that hold the geologist owners’ extensive mineral collection.

The home’s green building features include solar hot water panels, rainwater cisterns, high-efficiency insulation and FSC certified cedar shingles and interior doors. The home is Energy Star and GreenBuilt NC certified.
