Old Fort Cabin up for a Fine Homebuilding Award

Old Fort Fine Home Building Award

Today is the last day to vote for our project “Old Fort Cabin” in Fine Homebuilding Magazine’s 2015 Readers’ Choice Award. Voting ends tonight, March 9, at midnight. Currently, we are in second place, so please take some time to visit the site and vote for us! {VOTING HAS ENDED}

This home, located outside of Asheville, was completed last spring. It serves as a simple retreat for our clients who are passionate about fly-fishing. When they found a property with a designated trout stream, it was a natural fit. We developed a design that allows them to experience both views and sounds of the creek and a relaxed design style for the cabin which is a counterpoint to their full-time residence.

Our primary challenge was the land, which is remote and steep with limited access for larger vehicles as well as for staging areas. We developed a very efficient footprint to fit the land and to minimize foundation and roof costs. The budget was reasonable, but cost-containment was important throughout the project.
