Beautiful Lake Junaluska is situated just two miles from Maggie Valley near Waynesville. Located in Haywood County, North Carolina, the Lake Junaluska community is part of the Asheville Metropolitan Statistical Area.
In and around the 200-acre lake, attractions abound, and the surrounding mountains afford a stunning backdrop. Tennis courts, pools, walking trails, whitewater rafting, fishing, boating, horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, and snow skiing are some of the activities enjoyed by residents of this Census-Designated Place (CDP). The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Pisgah National Forest, and the Harmon Den Wildlife Refuge are also nearby.
Lake Junaluska is notable as the site of the World Methodist Council’s headquarters. The Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center hosts events and conferences for the Southeastern Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church. Also making Lake Junaluska its home, the Foundation for Evangelism provides funding to various seminaries, professorships, and youth ministries.
