This Black Mountain home provides an accessible main level program that includes a generous master suite, a mult-purpose sunroom, and open living space.  A private office is tucked away in the upper level, perched high with a long range view of the Black Mountains.  A custom made combination fireplace/tv cabinet anchors the cozy living room, balancing the large picture window.

This new construction in Biltmore Forest captures Old-world charm while meeting the desired functionality of modern day living.  The residence houses a showcase of antique furnishings, highlighted by thoughttful sightlines and framed openings.  The house connects to outdoors spaces from many of the main level rooms.  A guest suite occupies the upper level of the attached garage.

Mountain views are enjoyed from many rooms and an expansive covered porch provides opportunity to connect with the outdoors. Custom millwork and faux finishing were completed by local Asheville craftsmen and artists.

With a site situated on a steep slope near Blowing Rock, the design sought to provide an appropriate solution for the land and landscape.  Samsel Architects proposed a thin linear footprint that follows the site contours and provides long range views from every room in the house.  A contemporary craftsman style presents an original design aesthetic that maintains warmth and utilizes a rich pallette of colors and materials.  An elevator enables the master suite location on the upper level, taking advantage of views and natural ventilation.

This British Arts and Crafts residence is inspired by the work of architects C.F. Voysey and M.H. Bailley-Scott.  Continuing the tradition of British Arts and Crafts integration into the vernacular of Asheville’s Biltmore Village and the Town of Biltmore Forest, Samsel Architects delivered a design solution that is appropriately suited for it’s location.

Sustainable Design and Green Design are exemplified in this 4,600 s.f. home through site placement, recycled content materials, low toxic finishes and certified sustainable wood.  Windows along the south wall provide passive solar heating, forest views and a visual connection to the outdoors.  Terraces and porches surround the living spaces to provide expanded living area.  Clean lines and natural materials create a balance of modern style and casual living.
